8:12-13
Therefore, brothers, we
have an obligation — but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to
it. 13 For if you live according
to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the
misdeeds of the body, you will live,

Remember we said earlier that we
are saved by grace and now walk in the grace of God which is opposite to law. We
also established that it is foolishness to start depending on keeping certain
laws and rules( whether the ones we created or the laws of Moses or ones
created by our church) to obtain righteousness with God. Our righteousness with
God is based on the grace of God that we receive through faith in Jesus Christ.
Jesus has paid the debt for our sins and we now have full access to God.
Our text here tells us that we have
an obligation to live and walk in the spirit, instead of following the sinful
cravings of the flesh; we now have the ability in the grace of God to do this. Grace
is never a license to sin but an empowerment to live the life of the Holy Spirit
who now dwells within you if indeed you are born again. Remember that being
born again does not just stop with water baptism; you also need to be baptized in
the Holy Ghost.
Prayer: dear heavenly father, I thank
you for the Holy Spirit that you have sent to teach me how to live in this
sinful world. I pray that you help me walk in the spirit and not walk after the
flesh from this day forth. Amen
