John 8:12
Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, "I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life."
We were all born into a life characterized by darkness because we were all born with a sinful nature. God has prepared a way for us to be free from this sinful nature that came as a result of our being descendants of Adam. We were in Him when He sinned against God and therefore all humankind sinned when this one man, Adam sinned. God made an arrangement to save us from this darkness by sending His only begotten son to come and suffer the penalty for our sins so that we, being joined to Him, can be free of darkness but have the light of life. Sin is not just a disobedience of the word of God but is a transgression of the law of life. That is why a soul that sins must bear the ultimate penalty of death. This rule applies to every soul, whether human, angels or even God. This is the reason why the angels that sinned will ultimately bear the penalty of eternal death. This is the reason why the devil attempted to cause Jesus (who is God) to sin, the way he tempted the first Adam to do the same. This is the reason why our sins had to be atoned for by one who had no sin- Jesus.
Jesus now makes intersessions for us not because of our sins (transgression of the law of life) but because of our trespasses (going beyond our boundary, encroaching etc.) because we have been bought with a price. The basis for us receiving forgiveness and a restoration of our fellowship with God is that we expressed His nature by forgiving also those who have sinned against us.
Prayer: Father in heaven. Thank you for your word today. I pray that you help me live the life you called me to live under you. I pray that you help me to bear your light in this world that seems to be getting darker. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
