If You Have Life, You Have Hope

Broadcast 4005
Click here for the audio version:

Psalm 139:14 (KJV) reads, "I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well."

Job was known as a righteous man in his days. It was God who called the attention of Satan to this upright man, saying, “Have you considered my servant Job?” Satan’s response was revealing, “Does Job fear God for nothing? Haven't you made a hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. But put forth your hand now, and touch all that he has, and he will curse you to your face.” God granted Satan’s request, and he wreaked terrible damages on Job, some of which were irreparable.

After a while, God again drew Satan’s attention to Job’s uprightness. Of note was Satan’s response, “Skin for skin, yes, all that a man has will he give for his life. But put forth your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse you to your face.” God again granted his request but with restraint, “save his life.” Job’s life was his most precious commodity, and God would not allow Satan access to it. Job passed the test; he refused to deny God, and all that he lost were eventually restored.

If everything around a person were to be placed on a scale of preference, their life would be the topmost. God values our lives so much that He will not allow Satan to touch it, even when He allows him to tempt and try us. If God had allowed Satan, he would have killed you. You are alive because God restrained him.

Go into today thanking the Lord for being alive despite all that you may have lost. Because you are alive, you can be restored.

God Keeps His Covenants

Broadcast 4004
Click here for the audio version:
Numbers 23:19 (NET) reads, "God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a human being, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not make it happen?"
The first time we see the word Covenant in the Bible was in Genesis 6:18 where God instructed Noah to embark on the project of building a gigantic vessel or ark for the preservation of his family and the animals. That was a project that altered the trajectory of Noah's life. It took Noah over 100 years to build that ark. Now, you need to realize that Noah was doing this against all odds. He was building an ark to preserve his family from a flood. A flood was something that had never happened on Earth before; in fact, it had never rained on Earth before this time. Building the ark was a sacrifice and a pure act of faith and obedience.

A covenant is an agreement or contract between two parties. Both parties have their defined roles, and integrity demands that when one party fulfills his role, the other party must fulfill their corresponding role as prescribed by the contract. A covenant is as useful as the integrity of those entering it.

When God enters a covenant with people, it means they have their part to play, and He has His. If God says He will do something, you can be sure He will because He keeps His word. As long as Noah remained in faith and obeyed God [by building the ark, etc.], God was committed to preserving him, his family, and the animals with him.

There are a number of Covenants mentioned in scripture. For example, the old Covenant demanded that the people of Israel lived under the law, and God would consequently be their God and father, protect and provide for them.

Go into today remembering that God is a covenant-keeping God because He is faithful and true – a Person of integrity.

The Best Use of the Human Will

Broadcast 4003
Click here for the audio version:

Luke 18:28 (KJV) reads, “Then Peter said, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee.”

God created the heavens and the earth, and on the sixth day, He made man. He also planted a garden for them where they were to have all their needs met. Although He gave them control over the garden, He warned them to stay away from one thing: the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Why would God do this? He did it because He wanted them to exercise their power of choice; He wanted them to obey Him willingly. Adam and Eve, by their will, chose to disobey God, and death entered our world as a result.

Just like Adam and Eve, every person—male or female—will have to choose whom they will obey. Every new day that you see is another opportunity to decide whether you will choose and obey God or not.

Many, like Adam and Eve, have chosen to disobey God. They did this when they decided to disobey God’s instructions. When God came beckoning to them through His Son Jesus Christ, they turned Him down, and by doing so, they chose the path of death.

Go into today knowing that the best way to use your will is to use it to choose the will of God, just like Jesus’ disciples did when they left all and followed Jesus in today’s passage.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I choose to follow You. Please grant me the grace to keep choosing You. Amen!

Spiritual right to exert authority

Broadcast 4002
Click here for the audio version:

1 John 2:3 (NET) Now by this we know that we have come to know God: if we keep his commandments.

Orji wondered why he would pray, fast, and still struggle to cast out a demon that Emaka wouldn’t even need to strain his voice to cast out. He came to realize that the reason for his little spiritual authority was because he wasn’t properly aligned to Christ's authority.

When you read a Bible verse like today's main text, you may wonder why in the New Testament, so much emphasis is still made on commandments. 'Are we not now under grace and no more under the law?' Yes, we are under grace, but being under grace does not mean being lawless. It means the grace of God empowers us to obey God's law that He has now written upon our hearts because of the new covenant (see Heb 10:16). What this means is that a Christian is someone who is under God's authority. He is not a 'free moral agent' but is under the absolute authority of the Lord Jesus.

Any man who is not living under authority has no spiritual right to exert authority. It may look as if the devil still has authority, but in reality, he has authority over only the members of his household.  All authority has been given to our Lord Jesus Christ. He has the absolute authority over the heavens and over the earth. If you must exert spiritual authority, that authority must be the same authority that the Lord has. You cannot exert this authority if you are not operating under it. This is the real reason why demons do not respect some Christians. Demons do not respect people who have not actively aligned with the only spiritual authority that can cast them out. You align with this authority by living your life under the authority of Christ.

Go into today asking the Lord to help you properly align under His authority (read 1 Pet 5:6).

Sin is a snare

Broadcast 4001
Click here for the audio version:

Jeremiah 20:10 (KJV) “For I heard the defaming of many, fear on every side. Report, say they, and we will report it. All my familiars watched for my halting, saying, Peradventure he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.”

In 1 Chronicles 21, we see how Satan stirred David to conduct a census of the children of Israel, which incurred God's wrath and brought destruction upon the nation. One may ask, what is sinful about conducting a census that should get God so angry? The answer is simple; David disobeyed God. Why? Because Satan provoked him to do so.

Just as Satan provoked David to disobedience, what is provoking you? Is it pressure from your boss, conflicts with your spouse, your pastor's expectations, or challenging circumstances in your life? Be aware that Satan often uses whatever or whomever stirs you to disobey God, intending to ensnare you.

Do not be deceived by Satan's tactics. Instead, submit yourself to God and resist him. By doing so, he will flee from you (James 4:7), and the temptation that loomed like an insurmountable mountain will crumble before your eyes.

Remember, every sin is a snare aimed at making you an enemy of God, leading to your destruction.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, grant me the grace to always submit to You, enabling me to steadfastly resist the devil. Amen.

The Fruit of the Spirit 10: Faithfulness

Broadcast 4000
Click here for the audio version:

Galatians 5:22 (NET) reads, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness."

Lanre had a reputation for being very honest and faithful. His colleagues called him "pastor" because they had observed that he was truly a man of integrity.

Lanre had a prayer schedule that he never missed, even when it was not convenient. One night while he was praying, the Spirit of the Lord ministered to him and told him he was going to be the next managing director of his organization. He knew he had an angelic visitation that night, so even though it didn't make sense for him to believe that he could be managing director, he believed the word that came to him. True to the word of the Lord, 2 years after he had that angelic visitation, he was appointed as the managing director.

Lanre always wondered if he would have received the miraculous promotion if he had missed his prayer appointment that day. That day he had the angelic visitation, it was particularly difficult for him to keep his prayer appointment because he had a cold and was feeling sick. But because he now had a spirit of faithfulness, he went to pray in spite of the way he felt.

Many have missed out on their season of visitation because of unfaithfulness.

Go into today asking the Lord to increase in you His nature of faithfulness. Renounce every way of dishonesty and unfaithfulness.

The Fruit of the Spirit 9: Faithfulness

Broadcast 3999
Click here for the audio version:
Galatians 5:22 (NET) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness
Before Lanre gave his life to Christ, he was not a very honest person. When he was on campus, he had two girlfriends who didn't know each other. They both believed he was their one and only. His word meant nothing to him. He only said the truth when it was convenient. But he never considered himself to be an unfaithful person.

After believing in the Lord Jesus and submitting to discipleship, he realized he could not continue in the old nature of sin and unfaithfulness. The more he understood the divine nature and sought to walk in it, the more repulsive lying and unfaithfulness were to him.

Because of this, his faith was strong, and his pursuit of the knowledge of God was very fruitful.

There are many believers whose spiritual endeavors are fruitless because they are faithless. An unfaithful person cannot be a faith-full person. Faith and faithfulness cannot be separated. Faith always produces faithfulness. Abraham was faithful to God because he had faith in God.

Go into today remembering that bearing the fruit of the Spirit means walking in the nature and character of God. God is faithful and so must we.

Grow in grace

Broadcast 3998
Click here for the audio version:

2 Peter 3:18 (KJV) But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

Our salvation is by Grace from start to finish. see Eph 2:8-9. What Salvation affords us is access to Grace. Rom 5:2 KJV says '...we have access by faith into this grace...' . We are, however, supposed to grow in that Grace as we read in our main text. One major way we grow in grace is through knowledge. 2 Pet 1:2 says 'Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord'.

It is important that we define the kind of knowledge that multiplies our experience in the grace of Christ Jesus. It is not the 'knowledge about our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ' but 'knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ'. You may know so much about someone and yet not know the person at all.

Our knowledge of Christ is our intimacy with Him. 2 Cor 3:8 says we are being transformed when we behold His glory with an open face. This can only be a personal experience. You cannot behold Christ through someone else's face or lens. Even when we hear messages, we need to internalize them. That way, our knowledge of Christ is personal and unique.

How have you grown in your knowledge of Christ? What are your unique landmarks in your walk with Him? He longs to release special strengths into your spirit through those personal moments.

Go into the day, seeking to touch the heart of Jesus in study, prayer, or in relating with other people.

Overcoming a guilty conscience 3

Broadcast 3997
Click here for the audio version:
Hebrews 10:22-23 (NIV) let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.
What a guilty conscience takes away from you is boldness and assurance. When a person has a guilty conscience, he cannot deal with God in boldness. And this will greatly hinder the flow of God's grace in his life.

We have seen previously that one way to overcome a guilty conscience is by convincing your conscience (that you are a child of God) in God's presence. 1 John 3:18-20 [NET] says: Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue but in deed and truth. 19 And by this we will know that we are of the truth and will convince our conscience in his presence.

We have previously seen that the way to convince your conscience is by recognizing the fruit of God's seed in your heart, which manifests in acts of love that your life has been able to produce. This is worthy of note because it is only those who have been fathered by God that can produce such love that does not have the selfish motive (see 1 John 4:7). If the devil has been trying to deceive you to think you are not truly born of God, and because of this, your conscience has been condemning you in God's presence, the way to overcome this is by using your practical fruits of love as proof that you have been indeed fathered by God.

This is why for us Christians, Love is a commandment we must obey. This commandment is not grievous but is for our spiritual benefit.

As you go into today, remember that those who walk in the Light (by walking in love) are the ones who will receive automatic cleansing by the blood of Jesus (see 1 John 1:9).

Ask the Lord to help you walk in practical love.

Overcoming a Guilty Conscience 2

Broadcast 3996
Click here for the audio version:

1 John 3:18-20 (NET) Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue but in deed and truth. And by this we will know that we are of the truth and will convince our conscience in his presence, that if our conscience condemns us, that God is greater than our conscience and knows all things.

Because of some mistakes Sandra had made in the past, she had a conscience that was always condemning her. After being a Christian for more than four years, she would still sometimes feel that she is not truly born again. She got free from this when she could prove to herself that she was now indeed a child of God.

Love is divine and anyone that walks in love does so because He is born of God and knows God (read 1 John 4:7-8). We have seen on this platform some time ago that the kind of love proceeding from God that manifests in believers is the original true love. This love does not expect anything in return for good deeds. It is not motivated

If you read today's Bible text carefully, you will see that we sometimes need to convince our consciences in God's presence concerning who we are. One sure tool we need to do this is having the evidence of God's love shed abroad in our hearts. This could only happen because God has accepted us as His sons. And the strongest proof of this is that we have the ability to walk in love toward fellow Christians and our neighbors.1 John 1:9 tells us that if we walk in the light (by walking in love), the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all unrighteousness. Unrighteousness is that proclivity in the soul to always go the wrong way.

Go into today knowing that the blood of Jesus cleanses God's Children from guilty consciences (Heb 10:22). Love is the greatest sign that we have been fathered by God.

Overcoming a Guilty Conscience 1

Broadcast 3995
Click here for the audio version:
1 John 3:21-22 (NET) Dear friends, if our conscience does not condemn us, we have confidence in the presence of God, 22 and whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do the things that are pleasing to him.

There was a sin Ted committed, and even though he 'repented', he still felt guilty.
Because of the way his conscience kept condemning him, it affected his confidence in the place of prayer. Being a spiritually wise Christian, Ted knew he had to get rid of this guilt fast. He did everything to end his feeling of condemnation, but the feeling did not go away. He was later led to confess what he had done to another brother. That was how he received his freedom from a guilty conscience.

This topic of 'guilty conscience' is very important for us to examine because guilt is Satan's chief weapon hindering Christians from accessing God's grace.

No one can wish away a guilty conscience. Many have tried to brainwash themselves using some superfluous teachings about grace, but if they are truthful to themselves, they would admit that they still bear guilt for sins committed. In fact, If you don’t feel anything when you commit a sin, you are not yet a child of God.

1 John 1:8 [NET] says "If we say we do not bear the guilt of sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us".

Know that if you are in Christ, your guilt does not affect the way God sees you, God is bigger than that (see 1 John 3:20). The problem is with us. A guilty conscience always hinders us from accessing God's throne of grace, and that is a big problem.

We shall further examine this topic next time.
Go into today knowing that the blood of Jesus is strong enough to cleanse every guilt. Ask the Lord for grace to walk above sin and guilt.

Overcoming lawlessness

Broadcast 3994
Click here for the audio version:

1 John 3:6 (AMP) No one who abides in Him [who lives and remains in communion with and in obedience to Him — deliberately, knowingly, and habitually] commits (practices) sin. No one who [habitually] sins has either seen or known Him [recognized, perceived, or understood Him, or has had an experiential acquaintance with Him]

Dre realized that because of the robust fellowship he constantly had with the Holy Spirit, all his weaknesses and besetting sins were no longer an issue. But he realized that Satan did everything to get him out of fellowship with the Holy Spirit. He realized that the devil's most potent tool was guilt. But he knew better, he knew that even when his conscience tried to condemn him, the Holy Spirit was greater than his conscience and would never leave him.

One big mistake many Christians make is that they think being filled with the Holy Spirit is something that should happen once in a while. Many Christians are victims of sins and spiritual weakness because they are hardly filled with the Spirit. They have no experience of fellowship with the Holy Spirit. They do not realize that the Holy Spirit was sent to be their comforter, counselor, teacher, helper, etc. These are intimate functions that we enjoy only when we are in constant fellowship with Him.

One thing you will understand when dealing with the Holy Spirit is His authority and government over you. You will know this intuitively, and you will discover that walking in close fellowship with Him removes the tendency of lawlessness in your heart. You can no longer do just anything or say anything. Your life becomes streamlined and narrowed to His will and government. This is what the narrow way really means.

As you go into today, do not forget that Christ dwells in you by His Spirit, and you dwell in Christ by allowing His word and will control you. This is the secret to a victorious winning life.

Thank the Lord for the grace to have fellowship with Him.
